CASTLEWOOD, Alameda County — Castlewood is a separately identified unincorporated community near Pleasanton, with a county service area responsible for important local infrastructure.
According to the Alameda County Public Works Agency, the Castlewood County Service Area covers about 587 acres southwest of Pleasanton along the Arroyo de la Laguna. Its boundaries include more than 200 home sites as well as the country club’s buildings and golf courses.
Why a county service area exists
The district was established in 1968 to maintain local roads. Sewer and water service responsibilities were added in 1979. The county says most of those systems were replaced in 1997.
How residents can report a problem
Alameda County identifies Bracewell Engineering as the current operator of the water and sewer systems and lists an emergency dispatch number of 831-673-5508. Residents should explain whether the problem concerns a public main, household plumbing or another part of a utility system, as responsibility may differ.
Road, drainage and utility matters in Castlewood may involve the county rather than Pleasanton’s municipal departments. A postal address using Pleasanton does not necessarily make the property part of the incorporated city.
