CASTLEWOOD, Alameda County — Property owners planning construction or trying to locate an old building permit in Castlewood should check Alameda County’s unincorporated-area permitting system.
The Alameda County Permit Portal expressly lists Castlewood among the communities covered by the county’s building permit services. Its online tools allow users to search permits associated with an address, review permit categories and request property files.
How to inspect historical building records
According to the portal, requests to review existing property files generally must be received before 2 p.m. on Wednesday to enter that week’s retrieval process. The county says staff normally notify customers when records are ready within approximately five to ten business days. Some professionally stamped plans must be viewed in person.
Permits for more than buildings
The county also lists grading and encroachment permits for unincorporated communities, including Castlewood. Grading and watercourse-protection rules help manage erosion, sediment and drainage effects from construction.
An address described by the U.S. Postal Service as Pleasanton does not always determine which government must issue building permits. Residents should verify the parcel jurisdiction before hiring a contractor or starting work.
For file questions, the county lists 510-670-5440.
